There are many things you should think about when planning for a new pool. You will want to consider things such as your yard size, the pool size, and landscaping. Also, many options may be of importance to you, such as a pool cleaner, heater, solar cover, or spa. Here are some of the most commonly asked questions we receive in the planning stages:
I have narrowed my choices to a specific contractor. The design is nice and the estimate seems reasonable. How do I make sure I will be working with a reputable company that honors their commitments?
At this point in your selection process, the most important things to look into are the company's history and ethics. You need to ask yourself this question; If something ever does go wrong, is the company I am considering willing to solve the problem? Fortunately there are tools provided by the State of California to help you examine a contractor in order to make an intelligent and safe decision. In fact, Padre Pools invites you to take a closer look by using the following link:
CA State Licensing Board
At this site, you can look into the history of either a company or an individual salesperson. The salesperson MUST BE LICENSED with the company. We recommend you look up the salesperson's name to make sure he has the correct credentials. Take a closer look by using the following link:

In addition, very few pool contractors opt to become members of the Better Business Bureau. The BBB demands the absolute highest level of ethics and customer satisfaction. We have many clients who choose to do business with Padre Pools based upon our BBB membership alone!
I'm concerned my yard may not be big enough, or is an odd shape. It may not be right for a pool.
If you are even thinking about having a pool, there is a very good chance that we can design one that is right for the size and shape of the yard. There are a wide variety of designs to select from, and we are committed to helping you choose the right pool for your yard in the all-important planning stages.
What should I do with the rest of the yard? Should I think of the pool as an extension of my existing landscaping, or just start over from scratch?
This depends on many factors, including your personal taste, budget, and the pool you like. Keep in mind, the pool itself will dramatically alter the appearance of your yard, especially in smaller yards. If you do have a yard that is large enough to have the pool be a relatively smaller part of it, you may wish to simply incorporate the pool into the current landscaping. Just keep in mind that you will want to place the filtration and pumping system appropriately and landscape around it We will assist you in planning what would be best for your situation.
What about important options such as pool heaters, covers, and cleaners?
Now is a good time to consider these as well. We have many options to select from. Many folks like to have a pool heater added on. You may also want an automatic pool cleaner, cover, or spa added. Even if you wanted a spa added later on, planning for it now will mean the plumbing and fixtures will already be in place, saving you valuable time and money.
What about licenses, permits, and wiring diagrams?
Putting in a pool is a major construction project, and depending on your location and local government, requires a number of clearances and permits.
In most cases we can handle all of these time consuming matters for you.
Should I put a fence around the pool?
A fence is often considered just as much a part of the pool as the pool itself. It is simply the safest and best way to keep unexpected visitors and small, unattended children out. Local codes may also require fencing. We would be happy to suggest a reputable fencing contractor.
